CHANGES TO OUR OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCY SERVICE
From Monday 30th July 2018 we are making changes to how our Out of Hours (‘OOH’) Emergency Service functions
What happens currently?
At the current time we have a vet and a nurse ‘on call’ outside of our normal working hours (6.30pm-8am Monday to Friday and 1pm Saturday – 8am Monday).
These staff are usually at home and not working in the practice. They attend the practice when required
When you telephone us out of hours your call is diverted to a call handling centre who take you details, page the duty vet and then the vet telephones you back. We appreciate that at times this delay can be worrying whilst you are waiting for that call back.
This also means that our vets can regularly work in excess of 60 hours per week; and we are sure that you appreciate if a vet has to deal with a middle of the night emergency it impacts on their ability to provide your pet with best patient care the next day due to lack of sleep
Our current OOH fees are: Evening/weekend day consultation: £88
Weekend evening consultation: £106
After 10pm rate: £175
What is changing?
From Monday 30th July 2018 we are altering our systems.
We will have a vet and a nurse working in the practice up until 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am-4pm at weekends and Bank Holidays. The vet will be available for ‘Urgent Care Consultations’ at our Stone Surgery only during these times
An Urgent Care Consultation will cost £50
Our telephones will be answered during these times by Shires staff who will have access to your pets’ records and be able to provide a more efficient, timely and better service to our clients.
This service is for URGENT care only though. The practice will not be open and you will still need to telephone in advance to speak to a member of staff to arrange your urgent care consultation as the vet and nurse may well be dealing with other seriously ill patients
Outside of these times your call will be diverted to our chosen emergency provider Vets Now for emergency advice and treatment at their clinic.
We believe that working alongside Vets Now will raise the quality of service that we provide to you and your pet. The clinic is fully staffed by vets and nurses who only work Out of Hours and therefore they are fresh and available to deal with emergencies at night, weekends and Bank Holidays.
Their staff attend regular training in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Procedures and we think of them as the pet equivalent of the Accident and Emergency department of a hospital
In 2017 only 0.2% of our clients required our services during these time periods so in over 95% of cases your emergency care will still be provided here at ShiresVets
An emergency consultation at Vets Now will cost: £149 up until 11pm
£192 after 11pm
